London - the focus of attention

London is definitely a happening place in the past two days, although it seems quite business uausal in our small corner of west London office.

The Obama couple has enjoyed a warm welcome in London, you can't get any more high profile and British than a day like this in London - started with breakfast in Downing street, meeting selected elite of world leaders, meeting the queen (she got a ipod, but I wonder if she would ever use it) and Mrs Obama finished off the day dining with J.K Rowling and Mrs. Brown, cooked by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

They are the style icon, with his trademark smile and relexed yet influential manner, and her ever impressive wardrobe, they are the media favourite but they also have a magnetic appeal to general public around the world.

And they are very very lucky with the weather!

I almost wished Mr. and Mrs. Brown were a bit more glamourous, as the guests are certainly stealing the show here. But they have done a wonderful job being the host of a event watched by billions.

The scale and impact of the protests are not as serious as expected, and seem to be limited to specific groups at the moment.

The hype around the G20 and the rally in the stock market reminds me of the Obama campaign slogan "Hope", indeed in this deep crisis, hope and confidence is the key to lead us through the storm and come out strong. But hope does have to materialize but promises have to be fulfilled and delivered with concrete actions.

The sun is shining, and it also seems there is a fair share of optimism in the market!

Help - you want a more glamorous pm??? - a pm for the tabloid media. Forget brains. Forget decades of public service.

Mrs Posh Spice as Prime Minister - maybe Ms Goody could have been Home Secretary.

I'm with Michael Parkinson on Ms Goody - he said what no one else dared.

Please - lets not have politics trivialised into a glamour contest.

It was bad enough that so called serious newspapers sunk into endless column inches on who was the better dressed woman.

At the end of an Americam President Andrew Shepherd says - We've got serious problems, and we need serious people....

How true !

That said - I like Obama and his handshake with the No 10 policeman was instinctive and classy - and a lesson for many many others.

See democracy is not so bad....got rid of GWB and turned the world around !!

Now about that vote in China.......?????

Dear "I know who",

I am with you - serious problems need serious people, that is why David Cameron is not someone to be trusted to handle a crisis like this. And he is not glamorous either, he is just a rich kid (and his chancellor) who only makes noises and attack Brown but not contributing anything useful!

Just to clarify, when I said Glamorous, that doesn't refer to the looks, so Mrs. Posh or Goody would never make to my list of celebrities.

A Charm on a person is usually a reflection of inner wisdom, and of course good dresses/suits can help brush up the image - but it could never turn a stone into a diamond.

I think it is fair to say Tony Blair is a more charimatic leader than Brown, but both have their weaknesses as well. The charm with the Obamas is that they reflect the perfect American dream, both from an average household and rise to the top and shine like real stars because who they are/what they know and not who they know.

At least, in the age of crisis, one comforting thing to know we are not led by the Texas cowboy who only looks after the interest of oil companies, but leaders with real courage to make a positive impact.

Happy Easter!
